Paddle the Nile: One Woman’s Search for a Life Less Ordinary
Sarah Davis is a professional risk manager with a passion for risk taking. She is a British born Australian, an award-winning adventurer and keen sportswoman. At the age of 44 she decided she needed more out of life, keen to explore what’s possible. She always wanted a life less ordinary but struggled to find it. After much soul-searching she came up with the idea of completing an expedition down the Nile. It was the escape from her corporate life to the most incredible, life changing adventure she could have imagined.
Her memoir is about this trip, from the idea to paddles hitting the water and the adventure that unfolded. She had to overcome fears, self-doubt and a constant feeling that she’d bitten off more than she could chew. From day one the expedition was an epic adventure; equal parts fun, tough, and terrifying. This journey was filled with life-threatening dangers, from being attacked by hippos to getting arrested, and then travelling through a country on the brink of civil war. In the background was the ongoing risk of kidnap.
Along the way Sarah immersed herself in the fascinating local cultures of the five countries she travelled through: Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan and Egypt. This was an endlessly testing journey for Sarah, challenging her resilience, her positive outlook, and determination. It was a truly life-changing expedition.
